Offshore Construction

Horizon provides survey and geotechnical services throughout the life cycle of an offshore construction project including pre-engineering, pre-installation, construction support and as-built surveys. Horizon realises the projects we are involved in are costly exercises and as such we look to provide time and cost saving solutions with zero downtime to ensure project success.

We acquire, process, interpret and report the data gathered required for:

Feasibility studies and FEED

In order to determine the best solution for the project, a high level feasibility study of the site conditions is required. After the feasibility study of the offshore construction project has been completed, the design engineers require additional detailed survey and geotechnical data in order to prepare their Front End Engineering Design (FEED). Detailed information is gathered for:

Pre & post installation surveys

After the engineering is complete and prior to installation, we perform pre-installation surveys to verify that the route and site is clear and the area safe for the deployment of the installation barge’s anchors. Our engineers use an industry leading Tug Management System which allows the individual position and movement of each support tug to be displayed on the rig’s navigational system. This can be supplemented by overlaying existing seabed features such as bathymetry and pipelines to ensure the rig move master has a comprehensive overview of the asset installation. We also perform this service for pipelines, jackets, PLEMs etc.

Utilising our vast pool of resources, Horizon supports multiple long-term contracts with leading EPIC contractors around the world.

Annual surveys

Annual surveys of marine assets are critical for assessing degradation and preventing future disruptions to offshore operations. A ROV is used for visual analysis and can also be mobilised with an array of sensors for seabed charting, pipeline tracking, CP surveys and debris removal. Free-span detection, seabed mobility and scour, out of straightness (OSS) as well as the assets integrity are all critical factors which Horizon are expertly placed to survey.

These surveys are particularly useful when combined with our in house GIS database which can allow the client to cross reference survey data from previous surveys.
